Sylvanus
Discord Pantheon - Major God of Wilderness, Untamed Nature, Anarchy
Overview
Sylvanus is the untamed wilderness given voice, the claw, the fang, the storm-wind through shattered trees. He represents the law of nature unbound by harmony: red in tooth and claw, where strength devours weakness and chaos ensures renewal. Where Verdantia blesses crops and cradles new life, Sylvanus sends the wolf to the fold, the storm to the harvest, and the creeping vines to choke temples of stone. His followers see civilisation as a cage and destruction as the truest form of freedom.
Domains
Wilderness, Untamed Nature, Anarchy
Symbol
A twisted wildwood branch, gnarled and thorned, often carved into totems that drip with sap and blood.
Eldorian Name
Sylvanus (TBD)
Worship
Favoured Offerings
Wild berries plucked from thorn bushes, carved wooden idols, blood of hunted beasts spilled directly on the earth. Some cults sacrifice livestock or even captives, leaving them to be devoured by the beasts of the wild.
Typical Followers
Savage druids who reject all order, forest hermits who scorn towns, marauders who cloak themselves in animal hides, and beast cults that revel in the hunt. Tribes at civilisation’s edge sometimes honour him as both protector and destroyer, fearing the cost of ignoring him.
Temples & Orders
No walled temples, only deep groves where trees grow wild and roots crack stone. His shrines are marked with bones strung in branches, paths deliberately twisted so only initiates can find the way. Some orders of Sylvanus perform rites during wild hunts, chasing prey through the woods until exhaustion and terror give way to sacrifice.
Lore
Sylvanus is the eternal rival of Verdantia, who nurtures and orders growth. Their battles are told in every storm that uproots a field, every wildfire that razes crops. Myths say Sylvanus once planted a forest so wild it swallowed an entire city overnight, its streets becoming endless thickets where beasts roamed freely. His howl is said to echo through forests at dusk, a warning that civilisation’s path ends where his begins.
Common Knowledge in Eldoria
“Sylvanus walks when the path turns strange.” A saying used when travellers become lost in woods. Peasants warn children not to linger after sunset in forests, claiming “the Howl will find you.” Hunters sometimes spill the blood of their kill at the roots of trees, whispering thanks or apologies to Sylvanus. Some say storms that break barns and scatter fields are his laughter, and that he will never let mortals tame the wild.
